Lukie just passed his first birthday on July 27. Time flies when you're having fun, it's so true. I'm so happy with him everyday. Some days I'm so tired but seeing Lukie reach his milestones make me happy. Pictures from when he was born to now can show how he's just gotten cuter and cuter. (I'm not blind...)
First night with me on my lap in the hospital.

Twelve months later..."Look what I can do!"
Mommy and Daddy love you, sweetheart.
Guest post by the Husband.
Last night, Panadda and I were out on the deck with Lukie. We were talking when, all of a sudden, Lukie stood up on his own, smiled at us and held out his arms as if to say, "Wow, look what I can do!" Then he took about five or six steps before plopping down again.
This came as a surprise to us even though he's been practicing standing up, and walking while holding hands with an adult, for a couple of weeks now. Somehow, actually seeing the little dumpling get up and walk felt as strange as watching a person take flight like Superman -- he's not really supposed to be able to do that, is he? I wonder what other powers he's hiding.
Anyway, the cat is out of the bag. Lukie knows he can walk now and, if today was any indication, he likes it.
In the video: Lukie walking to Daddy, who is balancing a water bottle on top of his head (this always gets a rise out of Lukie).

Next day, we drove Lukie to the beach in Sag Harbor. It's a little bay in town. He loves sand and loves to walk on it. When Charlie left for New Jersey, I stayed in Sag Harbor for another two days. On Monday, I drove Lukie and Jimmy to the real big beach in Bridgehamton. I could not believe it myself. On the way there, he was crying about 15 minutes because Jimmy was sitting next to him in the back seat. I usually sit next to him. But when we got there and he saw the big waves and felt the wind he stopped crying right away.
Tomorrow Lukie is going to be 10 months old. Last week, I took Lukie to get his Polio shot from Dr. Notterman. I was concerned but she explained to me that when he is a year old he will have to get a lot of shots so it is better for him to get the Polio shot now.
Lukie was crying right when we opened the door to the doctor's office. He remembers the clinic atmosphere. The nurses couldn't weigh him on the infant scale. I had to hold him and stand on the adult scale. His weight was about 18 pounds.
I'm always worried about his weight because he is not gaining much at all. He is not eating well. I talked to my friend and the doctor and they both say it is okay for kids at this age not to have much of an appetite. Well, I'm trying to change my attitude about Lukie eating and let it be.
Lukie's Food
Lukie doesn't want to eat baby jar food anymore. He likes to eat table food now, whatever mommy and daddy are eating.
New foods that Lukie eats: olives, grilled cheese, cheesy pastina, broccoli pizza, jasmine rice, grilled chicken, salmon, flounder, broccoli, sweet potato, toast.
Fruit: fresh blueberries, raspberries, grapes, apple, pear, cherries, banana (not too ripe).
Staples: Cheerios, crackers, mommy's milk.
Tried but didn't care for: yogurt, yogurt drinks, baby cereal bars, baby cookies, pancakes, scrambled eggs, linguine alfredo.
Lukie's Milestones
Lukie will point at a familiar object such as an airplane in the sky when I ask him where it is. Same for a familiar person. He can push an object while crawling or walking. He can use do the "pincer grab" (pick up an object between his thumb and index finger). He can feed himself. He can call "dada" and "mama" more clearly than before and will try to imitate sentences (in baby language).
Lukie's Growth
I didn't take Lukie's measurements this month. I will wait until he's 12 months. Let's see how far he can go. At last check (9 months, 2 days), he was 28.25 inches tall and 18 pounds.

Update before I don't have time...
Mommy to Lukie conversation
Lukie, Mommy can't believe that you are 9 months old now. This morning, when we got up, Daddy surprised you and I by making pancakes for us. You had two bites and you didn't seem to like them because they were too dry for you. Daddy made the pancakes from a whole weat mix. It was about seven pancakes. Daddy had one and Mommy ate the rest (without syrup, how good is that?). Even though you didn't like them the first time, I will keep trying to give you a variety of foods. I don't want you to be a picky eater.
Last night when I put you to bed, I laid down and looked at you, and I could see how much you've grown. I want to tell you that I love you so much, more and more every day. I never thought that I could love someone this much. When I looked at you, it made me start to cry. I want you to grow up to be a good person and have a happy life. And you know Mommy will always try to help and support you if I can. Love you so much, sweetheart.
Lukie's milestones
Lukie has pretty good hand-eye coordination now. He can crawl and push the ball along with him as he goes.
He can understand some vocabulary like "hold on," "raspberries," "no, no, no," "bye-bye," and "clap your hands" (in Thai, Mommy says "Thob Meu").
He can stand up by himself for maybe 10 seconds.
He can self-feed. He holds crackers and takes bites by himself. He will also feed Mommy and Daddy if we ask for some. But he still doesn't know how to pick up something small between his thumb and index finger.
Social laugh. Every time he sees something he likes, or is satisfied by something, he will laugh out loud. His laugh sounds like he is clearing his throat. Sometimes I worry that his throat will get sore.
Eating
Lukie's favorite fruits are mangos and grapes (with skin peeled off). I introduced him to baby yogurt about two weeks ago. He seems to like it now. I'm so glad because it gives him some fat. Also new are Grandma's meatballs, a special modified recipe for Lukie. Lukie seems to like chewing foods that have texture, crunchy or crispy, not too soft. He doesn't care much for pasta or mushy purees. Today, I introduced him to jasmine rice. He seemed to like it but didn't eat very much.
Lukie's growth
I didn't measure him today. Will update later. Update at 9 months and 2 days
Length 28 1/4 inch "75 % growth WHO World Health Organization chart"
Weight 18 lbs 2 oz " 55 % growth WHO chart"
Sleeping
Lukie seems to be on a schedule of sleeping about 10 hours straight during the night and napping twice during the day. His total sleep each day is never more than 14 hours but he is always active and energetic. He goes and goes.
Skin condition
The doctor says Lukie has eczema and it will probably go away on its own when he gets a little older. Some days the rash looks very red and others it looks dry. She said to just put moisturizer on him every day and only use the cortizone if the rash looks very bad.
