Last Friday night we took a ride from New Jersey to Long Island, New York. We left pretty late because we wanted Lukie to fall asleep in the car. Sounds like a good plan but it didn't happen like that. He was crying the whole time from the New Jersey turnpike until the New York Southern Parkway. First, when he cried and threw up I took him out of his car seat and we stopped at the rest area on the turnpike for 10 minutes. All the pizza he had eaten earlier came out. I fed him breast milk and told him nicely that we were going to visit Kun Yai (my mother) in Sag Harbor. He calmed down a little and smiled. Charlie took a walk around the car with him and I put him back in the car seat. "Well, it isn't easy like that, Mommy," Lukie said. He started to cry again and threw up a second time. All the breastmilk came out but I didn't take him out of the car seat again. I wiped him and he kept on crying hysterically.
Well, finally, after an hour's drive, he fell asleep. The car smelled like baby vomit. We got to Sag Harbor almost 1 o'clock in the morning and, of course, Lukie woke up. He remembered Kun Yai's house. It didn't take him too long to get familiar with the place. He played with my mother, and laughed and screamed like crazy. We tried to unpack our bags quickly and calm him down.

Next day, we drove Lukie to the beach in Sag Harbor. It's a little bay in town. He loves sand and loves to walk on it. When Charlie left for New Jersey, I stayed in Sag Harbor for another two days. On Monday, I drove Lukie and Jimmy to the real big beach in Bridgehamton. I could not believe it myself. On the way there, he was crying about 15 minutes because Jimmy was sitting next to him in the back seat. I usually sit next to him. But when we got there and he saw the big waves and felt the wind he stopped crying right away.
Lukie is in love with the beach. He loves it so much that, even though the water was a little cool, he still crawled into it and splashed. He screamed and laughed, he was so happy.
Now I know my son loves the beach. Next time (I don't know when), I will prepare snacks so we can stay a little longer.
