Happy First Birthday Lukie!

Here comes the birthday boy!

Today is July 28, 2008. Lukie is one year and one day old. After having celebrated his first birthday at Grandpa Jimmy and Kun Yai's house in Sag Harbor on the 26th (one day early), we drove back to New Jersey yesterday. Lukie and I stayed there for one week before his birthday. Lukie had a lot of fun at Grandpa Jimmy's house. We went to the beach almost every day. Because of that, Lukie is very tan right now. My son loves outdoors activities. Even though last weekend was very hot, Lukie didn't mind being outside. He walked and ran until his hair was all wet and his cheeks were red.

On his birthday, Lukie seemed to be very happy. First he saw all the decorations and balloons. He got up pretty early and later took a nap for about two hours. He woke up and found Grandpa and Grandma from New Jersey, and Uncle John, Aunt Maria and cousin Kristen all waiting to see him. A lot of presents for Lukie. He didn't know how to open them, but he was excited to see what was inside the colorful wrapping paper.

Birthday boy is a little tired.

I love to see Lukie smile and laugh when he play with my mom. My mother loves to play peek-a-boo with him. Grandpa Jimmy loves to take a ride to the beach with Lukie and be his "buddy guide" at the beach.

Birthday boy stayed awake from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on his first birthday. He fell asleep like lighting. A lot of excitment and activity for a very lucky boy.

What's this, Grandpa?

From born to now!

Lukie just passed his first birthday on July 27. Time flies when you're having fun, it's so true. I'm so happy with him everyday. Some days I'm so tired but seeing Lukie reach his milestones make me happy. Pictures from when he was born to now can show how he's just gotten cuter and cuter. (I'm not blind...)

First night with me on my lap in the hospital.

Twelve months later..."Look what I can do!"

Mommy and Daddy love you, sweetheart.

Lukie at 11 Months

Guest post by the Husband.

Last night, Panadda and I were out on the deck with Lukie. We were talking when, all of a sudden, Lukie stood up on his own, smiled at us and held out his arms as if to say, "Wow, look what I can do!" Then he took about five or six steps before plopping down again.

This came as a surprise to us even though he's been practicing standing up, and walking while holding hands with an adult, for a couple of weeks now. Somehow, actually seeing the little dumpling get up and walk felt as strange as watching a person take flight like Superman -- he's not really supposed to be able to do that, is he? I wonder what other powers he's hiding.

Anyway, the cat is out of the bag. Lukie knows he can walk now and, if today was any indication, he likes it.

In the video: Lukie walking to Daddy, who is balancing a water bottle on top of his head (this always gets a rise out of Lukie).
